My Go-To Grounding Techniques

1. The 5-4-3-2-1 Method

  • Name 5 things you can see

  • Name 4 things you can touch

  • Name 3 things you can hear

  • Name 2 things you can smell

  • Name 1 thing you can taste
    This sensory exercise anchors you in your physical environment and helps break the cycle of fear.

2. Deep Breathing
Breathe in slowly for a count of four, hold for four, exhale for four. Repeat. Focus on the rhythm—imagine breathing out tension and breathing in calm.

3. Physical Movement
Take a walk, stretch, or run your hands under cool water. Movement reminds your body that you’re safe and in control.

4. Affirmations
Repeat a phrase like, “I am safe. I am grounded. This moment will pass.”
Affirmations help shift your mindset and reduce panic.

5. Grounding Objects
Carry a small stone, crystal, or other meaningful object. When you feel anxious, hold it and focus on its texture and weight.
